REA Archiver CLI for Linux AMD64
================================

This portable package contains the REA Archiver command-line application for
64-bit Intel and AMD Linux systems.

Installation
------------

From this directory, run:

    sudo ./install.sh

To install under another prefix, set REA_INSTALL_PREFIX. For example:

    REA_INSTALL_PREFIX="$HOME/.local" ./install.sh

Then confirm the installation:

    rea --version

Usage examples
--------------

    rea create Photos
    rea create *.jpg
    rea create -o holiday.rea *.jpg
Key-file encryption requires TWO steps:

    # 1. Generate the secret key before creating the archive
    rea keygen photos.reakey
    # 2. Create the archive using that existing key
    rea create -o photos.rea *.jpg --key-file photos.reakey

If the key already exists, skip step 1 and reuse it. Further option examples:

    rea create Photos --key-file photos.reakey
    rea list photos.rea --json
    rea test photos.rea --key-file photos.reakey --json
    rea extract photos.rea -d selected --entry image1.jpg --entry image2.jpg --key-file photos.reakey
    rea extract photos.rea --destination restored --overwrite --key-file photos.reakey
    rea create -o private.rea Photos --password-file password.txt
    rea test private.rea --password-file password.txt
    rea extract private.rea -d restored-private --password-file password.txt

password.txt must already contain the password. Replace the example entry
names with exact paths reported by rea list.

    rea test photos.rea --key-file photos.reakey
    rea extract photos.rea -d restored --key-file photos.reakey
    rea --lang fr create --help

--output / -o is optional for create. By default the archive is created in the current
working directory using the complete name of the first input plus .rea:
Photos -> Photos.rea; image.jpg -> image.jpg.rea. With *.jpg, the shell's first
match supplies the default name. Do not quote the wildcard. Existing archives
are never overwritten.

Encryption is disabled by default. --key-file reads an existing secret .reakey
file; it does not generate one. Run rea keygen first, then use the same key
for create, test and extract. Keep a separate safe backup: losing the key makes
decryption impossible. A key may be reused for multiple archives.
--password-file reads a password from a file instead (trailing CR/LF removed);
it cannot be combined with --key-file. List and info expose paths and metadata
without requiring the content encryption key.

Help follows LC_ALL, LC_MESSAGES, LANG, then macOS AppleLanguages. On macOS,
neutral C/POSIX locales defer to the native language preference. Supported languages: English, French, Spanish, German and
Portuguese. Unsupported languages fall back to English. --lang en|fr|es|de|pt
explicitly selects the help language; commands and option names stay unchanged.

Progress display (CLI 0.6.4)
---------------------------

Create and extract automatically show a progress bar in interactive terminals,
with the percentage, elapsed time and estimated remaining time. Preparation
and finalization remain visible; 100% is displayed only after success.
The estimate uses actual engine work and becomes available once enough data
has been processed. It may vary with file contents and storage speed.

Progress is written to stderr; stdout and JSON output retain their format.
It is silent by default in redirected logs. Use --progress to force it or
--no-progress to disable it:

    rea create -o backup.rea Photos
    rea extract backup.rea -d restored
    rea --progress create -o backup.rea Photos
    rea --no-progress extract backup.rea -d restored

To update Debian/Ubuntu AMD64, download and run the current installer again:

    curl -fL https://rea.com.co/install-rea-cli-debian.sh -o install-rea-cli-debian.sh
    sh install-rea-cli-debian.sh
    rea --version
